The Sex Talk
Inspired by the remarkable stories of recovery from sexual violence and harassment of the women in my life, I wanted to research the root causes of this problem. I spent the summer of 2022 investigating the quality and regulations of sex education in the US, and discovered how poorly regulated and managed guidelines for sex ed implementation were across different states. My research paper was titled, "“The Relationship Between Sex Education Content and Sexual Violence, Teenage Pregnancy, STIs, and HIV."

After realizing the problem at hand, I decided to try my hand at writing a sex education curriculum. I mixed aspects and elements of other curriculums I had researched to produce a seven module course plan, complete with topics ranging from STI's to healthy relationships. I pitched this curriculum to a couple local sexual health organizations and womens shelters, who were able to offer valuable feedback that I implemented into my curriculum.

Upon completion, I wanted to make this curriculum more versatile and adaptable. I also became more interested in topics like UI/UX Design and web design, thus I began formatting my curriculum into a digital platform. This experience helped me gain so much experience with interaction design. Additionally, I was able to teach myself how to navigate important digital applications like the Adobe suite and Figma, all of which are widely used by paid professionals in the field. I was able to incorporate my interests of advocacy and sexual health with my interest in design, making this project infinitely valuable to me.
2022-2024

These are just the preliminary wireframes to show exactly what The Sex Talk would look like as an application visually.
